It is absolutely amazing how making a paid app free will result in exponential increases in downloads. Yesterday (2014-03-14) we made You Doodle Pro free temporarily. It was priced at 2.99 USD and was getting about 20-30 downloads a day. Now that it’s free, it got 22,000 downloads (and it was only free half of yesterday!).
What will be more interesting is how paid downloads are impacted once it is returned to being a paid app.
*UPDATE* Well it’s a week later and downloads / revenue of my paid version have returned to their previous levels. Was making the app free worth it? It was probably a wash. Downloads increased for a couple days, but probably didn’t make up for the 2 days the app was free.
